Information on data retention

After 1st September 2021, in accordance with the current legislation*, the personal data of all guests using accommodation services in Hungary must be recorded by the accommodation provider on arrival, via document scanner, in the accommodation management software and then transferred to the “Closed Guest Information Database (VIZA), as defined by the law.

Information on the mandatory personal data retention

Data to be recorded are:

  • First name and surname
  • First name and surname at birth
  • Place of birth
  • Date of birth
  • sex
  • citizenship
  • mother’s maiden (birth) surname and first name
  • identification data on the Identity card or passport
  • For citizens of third-countries** the visa or residence Permit number, date and place of entry

To record the data, the guest using the accommodation service must present to the accommodation provider his/ her identification card, driving licence or passport. Failure to present any documents will result in the accommodation provider refusing to provide accommodation. The accommodation provider is entitled to ask for the identification document and the guest is obligated to show it by law.

  • Government Decree 414/2015 of 23rd December on the rules for issuing identity cards and on the uniform recording of likenesses and signatures

**Third-Country citizens: person as defined in ACT II of 2007 on the admission and right of residence of third-country nationals
